Christening of the “San Clemente” in Singapore

Yesterday, Hamburg Süd celebrated the christening of a further container ship in its “San” class. The official naming ceremony of the “San Clemente” was held at the Marina Bay Cruise Center in Singapore, with customers and business partners.

The new container ship’s Sponsor is Wietske Willemijn Wage, wife of Niels Wage, Vice President of Marketing Freight & Potash of BHP Billiton. The naming ceremony was attended by Hamburg Süd Executive Board member Peter Frederiksen. The “San Clemente” is one of Hamburg Süd’s series of three “San” class new builds constructed at the Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan. Like her sister ships, she has a container slot capacity of 9,034 TEU and 1,370 reefer slots. Like the “San Christobal”, which was christened in August, the “San Clemente” is operating on the service between Asia and the East coast of South America. Hamburg Süd took delivery of the third new build, the “San Vicente”, last week.
